BORAL has sold its 18% stake in cement and lime manufacturer Adelaide Brighton for $210 million, with Boral managing director Rod Pearse saying the funds from the sale would be used to pay down its bank debt.
In a market announcement this morning, Boral said it sold 107.8 million Adelaide Brighton shares at $1.95 each, which, according to the company, is a 6.5% discount to the five-day volume weighted average share price to May 5, 2009.

NORTHERN Territory Treasurer and Infrastructure Minister Delia Lawrie says a record $1.3 billion infrastructure spend in 2009-10 will create 2500 jobs in the territory.
The infrastructure allocation announced in yesterday’s NT budget is nearly 50% up on last year and more than double the spend two years ago.

LEIGHTON Contractors has announced the manufacture of the first precast concrete products at its new 30,000-tonne capacity facility near Coffs Harbour in New South Wales.
The construction giant said the first pieces to be made at the new facility will be concrete girders and planks for the Ballina section of works under the RTA’s Pacific Highway Upgrade program.

PARIS in the spring, and a young man’s fancy turns to construction equipment. Yes, Intermat 2009 is underway and, despite the economic gloom, thousands have made their way to the Parc des Expositions de Paris-Nord-Villepinte for France’s big triennial expo.
In the months leading up to Intermat most of the news was about the growing list of high-profile withdrawals – Atlas Copco/Dynapac, JLG, Manitou, Metso, Sandvik, Terex/Genie, Wacker-Neuson – but now the focus has rightly turned to what’s new and exciting at the show.

A CONTRACT worth $1.1 billion has been awarded by the Queensland government to a consortium led by Leighton and the Commonwealth Bank for the design, construction and ongoing maintenance of seven new schools.
The work will be carried out by the consortium, called Aspire Schools, as part of the state government’s South East Queensland Public Private Partnership Schools project.

LEND Lease has won two contracts totalling $675 million for the construction or upgrade of 380 government schools in New South Wales as part of the federal government’s economic stimulus plan.
One of the contracts is worth $275 million and applies to 130 schools. This work will see Lend Lease – through its subsidiary Bovis Lend Lease – design and construct new facilities and carry out school refurbishments in the Northern Sydney region.
